MEET THE TEAM

Our founder, Dr. Melissa E. Clarke, is a board-certified and Harvard-educated Emergency Physician and author. She is also a nationally recognized leader in population health and health equity for Fortune 500 companies and healthcare organizations. Dr. Clarke moonlights as a media medical contributor, appearing on platforms such as CNN and Russ Parr World TV (formerly the Russ Parr Morning Show). For her work in health literacy and combating health misinformation during the COVID-19 pandemic, she received the 2023 Joseph R. Biden, Jr. Lifetime Achievement Award for Community Service.

Wayne Bruce is a creative strategist and multimedia producer specializing in health literacy, digital media, and event production. He has produced over 200 streaming broadcasts for organizations like United Health Care and The Black Coalition Against COVID-19 and created impactful podcasts such as Excuse Me Doctor. His work includes producing large-scale events, writing and directing health-focused films, and serving as Music Director for major cultural institutions. With expertise in studio technology and storytelling, Wayne leverages media to educate and engage communities. Through BHE Group, he develops innovative content that makes complex health information accessible and impactful.

Lila Mayes is a BHE co-host and co-producer. A Texas native (California-raised), she is the ultimate multi-hyphenate professional with a background in Human Resources, Event Production, and Artist Relations. Lila is also a fashion/wellness content creator. Lila applies her acumen in Business Administration (San Diego State University) and her DEI certification from Cornell University in her daily work in below-the-line television and film production. As a founding Board Member of the nonprofit organization, Black Women Lead, Lila supports their mission to amplify the voices/leadership of black women and underrepresented communities.

Brandi Francis is BHE’s Strategy & Operations Consultant - responsible for managing the execution of various projects, maintaining key relationships, and overseeing social media efforts. Taking a non-traditional route, Brandi utilizes her M.Ed from Johns Hopkins to moonlight as an author and freedom facilitator. Certified as both a Somatic Activated Healer and Trauma & Resilience Practitioner, she supports other organizations in prioritizing the humanity of their staff and student body. She weaves together restorative writing practices, curriculum development, somatic movement, and meditation to facilitate spaces that provide tools and techniques for helping others show up as their authentic selves.
